K-VHI-10 and K-VRQOL according to aspects of vocal use in current and prospective pediatric speech-language pathologists
Choi So-Hyun

Abstract
Speech-language pathologists more often feel subjective voice disorders rather than other professions despite learning vocal hygiene education and practicing education with patients that have voice disorders. Voice disorders are known to be highly related to vocal overuse, misuse and voice usage. The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between aspects of vocal use through intensity, speech rate and pitch, speech usage and K-VHI-10, K-VRQOL. After collecting data by conducting subjective aspects of vocal use, voice usage, K-VHI-10, and K-VRQOL online to 137 speech-language pathologists, correlation was analyzed through multiple regression analysis. The conclusions of this study are as follows. The variable that had a significant influence on K-VHI-10 was the voice intensity of current pediatric speech-language pathologists. And the variable that exerts the most statistically significant influence on the social?emotional and physical functioning of K-VRQOL was the speech rate of current pediatric speech-language pathologists. The voice usage of the current speech-language pathologists do not affect K-VHI-10 and K-VRQOL, while the voice usage of prospective speech-language pathologists shows to significant influence. Consequently, from this study, it is revealed that the speech problem of speech rehabilitation is caused by the vocal overuse, vocal misuse and the high intensity of speech usage. In other words, the greater the intensity, the greater the risk of subjective vocal disorder, and the higher the intensity of vocal use, The lower the quality of life would become as a direct result of the voice disorder. Therefore, speech-language pathologists need active self-voice management, such as vocal hygiene practice and reducing voice usage in order to prevent or reduce impact of their voice impairment.
